Pakistan’s textile exporters have urged the federal government to clear pending refunds worth Rs. 327 billion and address policy concerns they say are hurting export competitiveness.
Industry representatives said delayed sales tax refunds, income tax refunds and duty drawbacks have locked up a major share of exporters’ working capital. They warned that continued delays are increasing borrowing costs and weakening the sector’s ability to take new international orders.
Exporters have also asked the government to restore export-friendly tax treatment, reduce energy costs and simplify procedures under the export facilitation framework. They argue that high taxes, expensive power and delayed refunds are making Pakistani products less competitive in global markets.
The textile sector remains one of Pakistan’s largest sources of foreign exchange earnings and employment. Exporters say quick action is needed before the new fiscal year measures further affect cash flows and production planning.
The government has been reviewing budget-related demands from business groups while balancing revenue targets and commitments under wider economic reforms. Exporters say refund clearance should be treated as a priority because the amount represents their own withheld liquidity, not a subsidy.
