ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court has stopped the National Highway Authority from collecting an additional 50% toll from vehicles without M-Tag or with insufficient M-Tag balance.
The court suspended the NHA notification until the next hearing, fixed for August 3, 2026.
The petition challenged the extra toll as unlawful, arguing that the authority could collect toll tax but could not impose an additional penalty on non-M-Tag vehicles or users with low M-Tag balance.
The Ministry of Communications, NHA and other relevant officials were named as respondents in the case.
The matter affects motorway users who either have not installed M-Tag or do not maintain enough balance in their accounts at toll plazas.
The petitioner also sought relief for motorists who had already paid the additional amount under the notification.
The court’s interim order means NHA cannot collect the 50% extra toll until further proceedings.
