LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority Punjab has issued a rain alert as showers, windstorms and thunderstorms are expected across most districts of the province during the next two days.
According to the advisory, the ongoing monsoon spell may bring moderate to heavy rain in several parts of Punjab. The weather system is likely to affect upper, central and southern districts, while heavy downpours may cause water accumulation in low-lying areas.
In upper Punjab, rain is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum. Hilly areas, including Murree and nearby tourist spots, may experience strong winds, slippery roads and reduced visibility during heavy showers.
In central Punjab, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Jhang, Sahiwal, Okara and Kasur are likely to receive rain with wind and thunderstorms. Heavy showers in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Faisalabad may lead to temporary flooding on roads and underpasses.
In southern Punjab, rain is also forecast in Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Bhakkar and Mianwali. PDMA has advised residents in low-lying areas and near hill torrents to remain cautious during the spell.
PDMA warned that heavy rain could increase the risk of urban flooding in major cities, especially Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Faisalabad. Local administrations, WASA teams, rescue officials and drainage authorities have been directed to remain alert.
Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, stay away from electric poles and wires, and avoid standing near weak walls, trees or under-construction buildings during strong winds.
Motorists should drive carefully on wet roads and avoid passing through flooded underpasses or low-lying routes. People travelling to Murree, Galiyat and other hilly areas should check weather conditions before starting their journey.
PDMA said emergency response teams are monitoring the situation and are prepared to assist citizens in case of rain-related incidents. The authority also advised the public to contact rescue services or the PDMA helpline in case of any emergency.
The latest spell comes during active monsoon conditions across the region, with authorities warning that rainfall intensity may vary from city to city.
