The federal government has approved a 70-kilometre extension of the Murree Expressway to Muzaffarabad, aiming to improve road connectivity between Islamabad, Murree and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan announced the decision while chairing a high-level meeting of the National Highway Authority in Islamabad. The project will extend the N-75 route towards Muzaffarabad and connect AJK more directly with Pakistan’s main motorway and expressway network.
Officials said the extension is expected to provide faster, safer and more reliable travel for residents, tourists and transporters. The route is also likely to support tourism and economic movement between Punjab, Islamabad and AJK.
The Murree Expressway remains one of the busiest routes for tourists travelling from Islamabad to Murree and nearby hill areas. The planned extension is expected to reduce pressure on existing road links and improve access to Muzaffarabad.
