At least five people, including two women, died after a tourist boat capsized in the Saifullah Lake area of Swat’s Kalam Valley, according to local police and rescue officials.
Officials said the boat was carrying tourists when it overturned in the water near the popular tourist spot. Rescue teams and local volunteers reached the area soon after the incident and began searching for the victims.
Initial reports said several people were pulled from the water, while search efforts continued for those still missing. Authorities said difficult terrain and strong water currents slowed the rescue operation.
The victims were reportedly visiting the scenic area when the accident took place. Kalam and its surrounding valleys attract large numbers of tourists during the summer season, but officials have repeatedly urged visitors to follow safety precautions near rivers, lakes, and fast-flowing streams.
Police said further details would be shared after the rescue operation and identification process are completed.
