A 5.3 magnitude earthquake jolted Islamabad, Lahore and several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, spreading panic among residents as tremors were felt across multiple cities.
According to initial seismic reports, the earthquake struck at a depth of around 75 kilometres. Tremors were reported in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and different areas of KP, where people rushed out of homes, offices and shops as a precaution.
No immediate reports of casualties or major damage were confirmed after the tremors. Authorities were monitoring the situation, while rescue and emergency teams remained alert in affected areas.
Pakistan lies in a seismically active region and frequently experiences earthquakes, particularly in northern and northwestern areas. Experts advise citizens to remain calm during tremors, move away from windows and heavy objects, and avoid using elevators during an earthquake.
Residents in affected cities said the tremors were brief but strong enough to cause fear, especially in high-rise buildings and crowded commercial areas.
Officials are expected to release further details after reviewing seismic data and field reports.
