Telenor Pakistan has formally merged into Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML), the operator of Ufone, after receiving final statutory approval from the Islamabad High Court.
Following the approval, Telenor Pakistan has ceased to exist as a separate legal entity. The combined company will now operate under PTML, making it one of the largest telecom operators in Pakistan.
The merger completes a long regulatory process involving approvals from the Competition Commission of Pakistan, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, and the Islamabad High Court. It also marks a major restructuring of Pakistan’s telecom sector, which is moving from four major mobile operators toward three.
PTML is a wholly owned subsidiary of PTCL Group. With Telenor Pakistan now absorbed into PTML, the company is expected to integrate networks, spectrum, infrastructure, and customer operations over time.
For customers, mobile services are expected to continue during the transition. The integration process may bring changes in branding, network management, packages, and service delivery, but any major customer-facing updates are likely to be rolled out gradually.
Regulators have attached conditions to the merger to protect competition and consumer interests. These include safeguards related to pricing, interconnection, infrastructure sharing, and fair market access.
The merger is seen as one of the biggest telecom consolidations in Pakistan’s history. Industry observers say the move could improve network efficiency and investment capacity, but it will also increase regulatory focus on pricing, service quality, and consumer choice.
