Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Confirms Eid-ul-Adha 2025 Date in Pakistan

27 May 2025

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Pakistan has officially confirmed that Eid-ul-Adha 2025 will be celebrated across the country on Saturday, June 7, 2025. The decision follows the non-sighting of the Zilhajj moon on the evening of Tuesday, May 27.

Zilhajj Moon Not Sighted on May 27

Chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, the Ruet e Hilal Committee held its monthly moon-sighting session in Islamabad, where no credible reports of the Zilhajj moon were received from any part of the country. As a result, the first day of Zilhajj 1446 AH will fall on Thursday, May 29, 2025. Consequently, the 10th of Zilhajj, which marks Eid-ul-Adha, will be observed on Saturday, June 7.

Astronomical Predictions Supported the Decision

Experts from SUPARCO (Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission) had predicted a low likelihood of moon visibility due to the moon's age at sunset being just 11 hours and 34 minutes—well below the visibility threshold. Most observatories and regional Ruet-e-Hilal sub-committees reported no visual sightings, affirming the central committee’s final decision.

Significance of Eid-ul-Adha

Known as the Festival of Sacrifice, Eid-ul-Adha commemorates the historic willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in submission to Allah’s command. It is the second of the two major Islamic festivals celebrated by Muslims worldwide.

In Pakistan, families mark the occasion by sacrificing animals such as goats, cows, and camels, and distributing meat among family, friends, and the less fortunate. The ritual emphasizes obedience, charity, and community spirit.

Preparations Across Pakistan

With the date now confirmed, cattle markets across Pakistan are seeing heightened activity as citizens rush to buy animals for Qurbani. Provincial and local governments are implementing measures for Eid prayers, traffic control, sanitation, and waste disposal to manage the festive rush.

Eid Holidays Announcement

The Government of Pakistan is expected to declare Eid ul Adha holidays from Friday, June 6 to Sunday, June 8, 2025. This will give the public ample opportunity to partake in the religious rituals and spend quality time with loved ones.
