Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast dust, windstorm and rain-thunderstorm in upper parts of the country from June 11 to 13, advising citizens to remain cautious during the forecast period.
According to PMD’s latest forecast, weather conditions are likely to change in several northern and upper regions as a westerly wave approaches the upper parts of Pakistan. Moist currents from the Arabian Sea are also expected to enter northeastern areas, increasing the chances of rain and thunderstorms.
Rain-wind and thunderstorm activity is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, upper and central Punjab, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Northeastern Balochistan may also receive windstorm and isolated rain-thunderstorm during the period.
PMD said dust-raising winds and windstorms may affect several areas, especially during afternoon, evening and night hours. The department also warned that strong windstorm, hailstorm and lightning could damage weak structures.
Solar panels, electric poles, billboards and other vulnerable installations may be affected in areas hit by intense winds or lightning. Citizens have been advised to avoid standing near weak structures, trees, poles and exposed signboards during storm activity.
The forecast issued on June 11 said daytime temperatures are also likely to remain above normal in southern parts of the country on June 11 and 12. Hot and dry weather is expected in several plain areas, while very hot conditions may persist in Sindh and parts of Balochistan.
PMD reported severe heat in parts of the country, with temperatures reaching around 51°C in Sibbi and 50°C in Jacobabad. Other plain areas also remained under intense heat before the expected spell of wind and rain in upper regions.
For June 12 and 13, windstorm accompanied by isolated rain-thunderstorm is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, northeastern Balochistan and Islamabad. Dust-storm may also occur in upper Sindh, while hot and dry weather is likely elsewhere.
The weather department said the expected spell may bring temporary relief from heat in some upper areas, but strong winds, hailstorm and lightning may create risks for the public. Farmers have also been advised to plan outdoor activities according to the latest weather conditions.
Authorities usually urge residents to stay updated through official weather alerts during such conditions, particularly in hilly and storm-prone areas where sudden weather changes can affect travel and daily routines.
