The federal government is set to present Pakistan’s budget for fiscal year 2026-27 in the National Assembly on Friday, June 12, after a revised schedule for the annual financial plan.
Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb is expected to deliver the budget speech, outlining the government’s revenue, expenditure, taxation and development priorities for the next fiscal year.
The budget will be closely watched by businesses, salaried workers, industrial groups and provincial governments as Pakistan continues to manage fiscal pressures under an International Monetary Fund-backed reform framework.
According to pre-budget discussions, the government is expected to focus on revenue mobilisation, tax enforcement, development spending, debt servicing, subsidies, and measures aimed at supporting economic recovery. Final figures will be confirmed once the Finance Bill and budget documents are formally tabled in parliament.
The upcoming budget comes at a time when policymakers are trying to balance growth targets with strict fiscal discipline. Pakistan has been under pressure to broaden the tax base, improve documentation of the economy, and reduce reliance on short-term borrowing.
Business groups have urged the government to avoid measures that could further burden documented sectors, while economic observers expect the budget to include steps aimed at meeting revenue targets without derailing fragile recovery.
Development spending will also remain a key area of attention. Federal and provincial allocations for infrastructure, energy, transport, information technology, and social sectors are expected to shape the government’s economic direction for the coming year.
The budget session is also likely to draw sharp political debate. Opposition lawmakers are expected to question proposed taxation measures, inflationary impact, provincial shares, and public relief initiatives.
After the presentation, the budget will be debated in the National Assembly before voting on the Finance Bill. Once passed by parliament and signed into law, the budget will take effect from July 1, 2026.
