Pakistan has announced a 20% reduction in regulatory duty on imported mobile phones, a move expected to make high-end smartphones cheaper from July 1, 2026.
The relief is part of the federal government’s tariff rationalisation measures under Budget 2026–27. According to reports, the price impact could reduce the cost of some imported premium phones by around Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 14,000, depending on model, import value and market pricing.
FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial informed the National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance about the duty reduction during budget discussions. The committee had earlier raised concerns over high taxes on mobile phones and urged rationalisation of the existing duty structure.
The benefit is expected to be more visible on expensive imported devices, while lower-priced and locally assembled phones may see a limited impact. Retail prices will still depend on exchange rates, importer margins, PTA-related taxes and supply conditions in the market.
Mobile phone buyers in Pakistan have long complained about high import costs, especially on flagship models. The latest duty cut may offer partial relief, but industry observers say broader reform of mobile taxation is still needed to make smartphones more affordable.
