ISLAMABAD: Monsoon rains are expected to begin in parts of Pakistan from July 1, with authorities warning of heavy rain, windstorms, urban flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast rain and thunderstorms in several regions during the first week of July, while Sindh may receive monsoon showers later, around July 5.
Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and parts of Balochistan are expected to remain under weather alert as moist currents enter the country.
Authorities have warned that heavy downpours may trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas of major cities. Flash flooding is also possible in hill torrents and local nullahs, especially in northern and mountainous regions.
The National Disaster Management Authority has advised provincial and district administrations to keep emergency teams on alert and ensure drainage systems remain clear.
Citizens have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, stay away from electric poles, weak structures, riverbanks and flooded roads, and follow official weather updates.
Tourists planning visits to northern areas have also been advised to remain cautious due to possible landslides, slippery roads and sudden rises in water channels.
Pakistan’s monsoon season often brings intense rain spells between July and September, increasing the risk of flooding in urban and rural areas.
