Earthquake Shakes Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Other Areas of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Earthquake tremors were felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and several other parts of Pakistan, causing residents to rush out of homes, offices and commercial buildings as a precautionary measure. The shaking was reported in the twin cities as well as parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and surrounding regions.

According to seismic monitoring authorities, earthquakes affecting northern Pakistan frequently originate in or around the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, an area known for significant seismic activity. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) continues to monitor earthquake events through its National Seismic Monitoring Centre.

Witnesses said the tremors lasted for several seconds, prompting people to move to open spaces amid fears of aftershocks. Social media users from Islamabad and Rawalpindi also reported feeling the earthquake, with many describing the shaking as moderate but noticeable.

As of the latest reports, no major casualties or widespread structural damage have been confirmed. Local authorities and emergency services remained on alert while assessing the situation in affected areas. Initial information indicated that the earthquake caused panic among residents rather than significant destruction.

Pakistan experiences frequent earthquakes because of its location near the collision zone of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. The northern regions, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and areas around Islamabad, are particularly vulnerable to seismic activity.

The PMD has advised citizens to remain calm during seismic events and follow standard safety procedures, including moving away from unstable structures and remaining alert for possible aftershocks. The National Seismic Monitoring Centre continues to record and analyze earthquake activity across the country.
